Power Harvesting
 Power harvesting is a way to obtain and store usable electric energy from other energy sources using materials specifically designed to exploit and optimize coupling between the two (electromechanical, piezoelectric, thermoelectric, photovoltaic). Current research is focused on harvesting energy from ambient vibrations using a variety of piezoelectric materials and comparing the merits of each type. The ultimate goal of this research is to couple the energy harvesting and storage techniques with a wireless sensor to create a maintenance-free device which could be mounted in remote locations for structural health monitoring.
