Active Control Inceptors Using Smart Material Motion Control

Remy Lefeuvre's ResearchThe objective of the proposed project is to build and test a device to demonstrate the application of smart materials to active force feedback control sticks. These particular systems are currently found in aircraft and helicopter flight control hardware. The project tasks are precisely to:
- Design an actuation method, incorporating smart materials, to provide the required force and deflection
- Determine required electronic hardware to power the system, such as amplifiers, controllers, and appropriate wiring.
- Determine appropriate feedback sensor(s), to measure position, speed and applied force applied on the stick.
- Design a controller – a program built with mathematical software – to regulate a required force output.
- Build a demonstration of the system i.e. the Actuation Device.
- Test the system to compare performance with simulation models.
